A new mixed-use, mixed-income multifamily project is currently in the works in Long Island City. Referred to as the Jasper Project, this 13-story building is being worked on along 50th Avenue and 5th Street by Domain Companies, LMXD and the Vorea Group.

Matt Schwartz, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Domain Companies talks about what it means to be a sustainable development, why this is important to New Yorkers, their current projects particularly some new ones sprouting up in Gowanus and the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

Façade installation is progressing on 420 Carroll Street, a two-tower residential complex in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Domain Companies, the project consists of a 20-story, 224-foot-tall tower and a shorter 15-story sibling and will yield 360 units with 25 percent reserved for affordable housing, as well as 27,500 square feet of retail space, 7,700 square feet of “Gowanus Mix” space pursuant to the 82-block district rezoning, and a new public promenade along the Gowanus Canal.

In 2009, Domain opened Park Lane at Sea View, the redevelopment of the historic Nurse’s Residence on Staten Island’s Seaview Hospital Campus into mixed-income housing for seniors. The New York Times recently featured the property along with Virginia Allen, one of its first residents. Domain still owns and operates Park Lane.

Brewery Saint X (734 Loyola Ave.) and Devil Moon BBQ (1188 Girod St.): These connected concepts share a kitchen, a pitmaster (Shannon Bingham) and a key location for those venue-bound at Loyola and Girod. Both opened earlier this year and are making their season debut now.

“The pandemic impacted markets in very different ways,” said Matt Schwartz, a co-chief executive of the Domain Companies, a developer based in New York. “Salt Lake City is really one of the markets that benefited from that experience.”
