December 17, 2020
The Shop offers the future of work with creative collaboration and inclusive community vision.

SALT LAKE CITY –The Domain Companies, in partnership with Giv Development, is excited to announce that The Shop, a $14 million coworking community combining cutting-edge architecture and interior design with tech-savvy spaces, is now pre-leasing and poised to open this winter. Representing the future of work, The Shop is artfully crafted with local inspiration, exceptional hospitality, community vision, and proven dedication to economic development.

Having opened to great acclaim in New Orleans in 2017, The Shop exemplifies a new way to live and work in the heart of Salt Lake City, offering businesses a turnkey, affordable solution that supports safe and easy growth. The Shop joins Mya, Domain’s debut, mixed-income residential development in Salt Lake, and anchors a $124.3 million transit-oriented development that combines apartments, shared workspace, and retailers to serve as a cornerstone of the area’s ongoing growth.

“We’re proud to bring The Shop’s second location to Salt Lake,” said Domain’s co-CEO Matt Schwartz. “Not only is it unmatched in terms of design, artwork, hospitality, and convenience, but it’s also the greenest shared workspace in the city. We’re building a truly transformative space for the business and entrepreneurial community and can’t wait to see it grow.”

Located at 340 East and 400 South in the heart of Salt Lake City, this unique coworking space will introduce an unparalleled level of benefits, community, and technology to Salt Lake City’s shared workspace market. The Shop is carbon neutral and designed to maximize energy efficiency and sustainability with electric car charging, solar energy, and Enterprise Green Communities certification.

Three floors with more than 30,000sf of fully furnished creative coworking spaces will introduce expansive “Commons” shared workspace, private offices, event space, full kitchen, a roof deck, multiple meeting rooms, and comprehensive amenities. Memberships start at $275 per month and day passes are available for those on the go or just needing short-term coworking or conference room space.

Members of The Shop will enjoy exceptionally designed, art-filled workspaces offering a diverse, vibrant community of creative professionals with a robust services and benefits platform. Participation in Domain’s MyCommunity program, which supports local nonprofits and coordinates volunteer opportunities throughout the year, will also be available to The Shop’s members. Local nonprofit partners will be announced in fall of 2020.

“The Shop is a needed and timely coworking concept for Salt Lake.” Said Giv’s Executive Director Chris Parker. “It’s designed to reflect the character of our local community, from the tenants, to the programming, to the art in the space and the products in the kitchen. Its carbon-neutral pedigree, sense of collaborative place, and effortless up and down scalability is exactly what SLC businesses need post-COVID. I can’t wait to move in.”

They worked closely with the City and Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City to come up with innovative solutions for a range of incomes to offer new-to-market affordable housing options

Making significant long-term investments in the future of Utah, Domain marks their entrance in the Salt Lake market by first opening Mya this fall and following closely with The Shop. Next spring, Domain will unveil Avia, luxury residences in a prime location along the TRAX line. Additional mixed-use projects are planned in the near future.

To advance The Shop, Domain tapped trusted financial partners. Goldman Sachs provided $7,500,000 in construction financing. The project was also funded in part by a $360,000 loan from Salt Lake City.

The architecture firm behind The Shop’s design is Eskew+Dumez+Ripple with Wadman Corporation serving as the general contractor and Farouki Farouki as interior designer.

The Shop will be maintaining a safe, sanitized workspace, adhering to CDC best practices like social distancing and masks and going above and beyond with regular disinfecting, easy access to a low-rise building (less time spent in the elevator), occupancy monitoring, and Nanotech germproof wraps on highly-trafficked surfaces.
