The South Market District Advances with Residential and Retail Leasing and the Addition of ‘The Standard’ Condominium
July 08, 2015
The Morris Adjmi-designed ‘The Standard’ will join The Paramount, The Park, and The Beacon’s unique mix of residences, retailers, restaurants, and services in the South Market District.

New Orleans, LA – The Domain Companies has announced the addition of ‘The Standard’ to its rapidly progressing South Market District development in Downtown New Orleans, making it the fourth building to join the burgeoning neighborhood. The Standard will feature 89 large one- to three-bedroom apartments with finishes and a suite of services and amenities designed to position the property as the top condominium product in the market.

The building is being designed by famed architect Morris Adjmi, a New Orleans native and the founder of the New York City-based firm Morris Adjmi Architects. His work takes its inspirations from context and history to create some of the most original, well-received residential properties in New York City’s most desirable neighborhoods, including Tribeca’s The Sterling Mason and 11 North Moore. With The Standard, Adjmi has set out to combine his knowledge and love of New Orleans with his unique architectural perspective to create a spectacular addition to Downtown.

“The South Market District and Downtown New Orleans are experiencing tremendous growth and momentum. The Standard represents the next step in that progression, delivering world-class architecture combined with services, amenities, and retail that will set a new bar for Downtown living,” said Matt Schwartz, The Domain Companies Principal. “The Standard will build on the excellence that residents, workers, and visitors have come to expect from South Market, providing an unparalleled ownership opportunity in the heart of Downtown New Orleans.”

In addition to its innovative architectural design and living spaces, The Standard will add 24,000sf of retail space along Julia St., S. Rampart St., and O’Keefe Ave. that will target art galleries and local boutiques. The building will include a unique 30,000sf amenity deck on the third floor with a large pool, outdoor kitchen and fitness areas, poolside cabanas, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The deck will round out a full suite of amenities and services, including a full-time concierge, resident clubhouse with a bar and media lounge, state-of-the-art fitness center, secure storage areas, and onsite parking with electric car charging stations.

Like current residents of The Paramount and future residents of The Beacon, The Standard’s residents will enjoy exclusive access to all that South Market has to offer, such as Enterprise CarShare, Zagster bike-share, priority and proximity to some of the city’s best dining, shopping, and entertainment destinations, and more. As with all of Domain’s properties, residents become members of the MyDomain program, which includes a mobile app, automated payment programs, a 24-hour service guarantee, exclusive neighborhood discounts, and more.

Construction of The Standard is expected to commence in early 2016 with completion anticipated in late 2017. Woodward Design+Build will serve as the general contractor for the development.

The Standard announcement comes at an exciting time for the South Market District. The Paramount achieved full residential lease-up in early June, filling its 210 apartments in just over five months. The Park’s offerings, including car-share, bike-share and electric car charging stations, have been well received and utilized by the Downtown community. The retail spaces in both buildings are fully leased, with several stores and restaurants recently opening, including Arhaus, Hattie Sparks, Stonefree, barre3, Ursa Major, and Blaze Pizza. Willa Jean Bakery, Magasin Kitchen, Company Burger, and CVS Pharmacy are all slated to open throughout the summer. Construction on The Beacon is currently 40 percent complete with residential pre-leasing scheduled to commence in late 2015 and completion slated for early 2016.  Retail leasing at The Beacon continues to progress with several exciting announcements coming later this summer. www.southmarketdistrict.com
