Domain believes in facilitating regular volunteer opportunities for our employees, which has resulted in the annual MyCommunity day tradition. MyCommunity days see all Domain employees gather together to contribute to major volunteer projects, committing to a full day of service to make a positive impact in our community. Louisiana Community Day 2016 brought Domain back to Mid-City New Orleans walking distance from our two developments Meridian and Crescent Club.
Comiskey Playground is a neighborhood playground operated by the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) and supported by the NORD Foundation. This playground, home to an array of after-school programs including football, basketball and cheer-leading – had fallen into disrepair post Hurricane Katrina.
It took over a year and a half of working with NORDC and the NORD Foundation to make this project a reality – but took approximately 50 Domain employees only a few hours to revitalize the playground.
“We are so delighted when a corporation takes interest in recreation because they understand its impact on a city’s quality of life. The difference with the Domain Companies is that they leverage everything they can for the good of the community,” said Annie LaRock, Executive Director for NORDC, “They set their sights on beautifying Comiskey, with transformative results.”
New lighting was installed and new signage put up throughout the building by our maintenance team. The faded basketball court was taped and re-striped, and the complete exterior and interior of the building were painted, including bathrooms, kitchen, supply closets and team rooms. The Comiskey team colors of blue and yellow now cover the playground’s shelter.
“The whole Domain team showed up for the day, led by their talented maintenance folks,” LaRock continued. “Domain is a great company, and we are very proud to be a recipient of their team’s good will and great work.”
Domain is proud to support our communities, and looks forward to continuing a fruitful relationship with NORDC!
