Chef Michael Gulotta has had a lot of success in New Orleans’ Mid-City neighborhood with MoPho, Tana, and Rum and The Lash. Now, Gulotta and his team are moving into South Market District with Maypop, a modern Asian restaurant.

We love that MoPho has become this neighborhood joint in Mid-City, but we also want to bring what we do downtown and expand it with other dishes,” Gulotta said in an interview in the New Orleans Advocate.

The menu at Maypop, which takes its name from the passion flower plant, will be different than its Vietnamese-style sibling MoPho. Maypop will feature many of the specials that have appeared at MoPho over the years, but the restaurant will forgo dishes like pho, choosing instead to focus on melding Southeast Asian staples with modern American culinary style. “MoPho distilled,” described Gulotta.

The restaurant is the newest addition to an ever-expanding list of favorites at The Paramount, including Willa Jean, Magasin Kitchen, Part & Parcel, and Company Burger.

Maypop, 611 O’Keefe Ave, New Orleans.
