Green Highlight: The Paramount at South Market

The South Market District, a Domain Companies development, is at the center of a new energy and activity transforming New Orleans’ historic Downtown. A major part of the transformation is creating a new standard of green living Downtown.

Leading the way on green living is The Paramount, the first residential development in South Market. In March 2015, the Paramount was awarded Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver Certification for Multifamily Midrise, the first luxury apartment community to achieve the certification in Downtown New Orleans. The Paramount’s LEED Certification comes from its innovative design that features Energy Star lighting and appliances, high-efficiency HVAC systems, water-conserving fixtures and appliances, and purposeful landscaping that reduces water consumption. Overall, The Paramount is 20% more energy efficient than other comparable buildings.

LEED Silver Certification means energy and cost savings for our residents, recognition for the Downtown New Orleans community, and a reduced impact to the environment. We hope to serve as a model for all construction projects in the area” said Chris Papamichael, Principal of The Domain Companies.

In addition to the features that contribute to LEED Certification, the South Market District is designed as a transit-oriented development, with easy access to public transportation, including New Orleans’ most recent streetcar line and the Union Passenger Terminal (he city’s most important transit hub). As South Market continues to grow, green innovation will continue to be a major focus as a means of enhancing the Downtown community and improving the lives of those that live and work there.
